Profile & Arrangement

The client who commissioned Tumblehome had previously owned a 60-ft Hunt-designed yacht. Her experience with that boat convinced her to move up to a larger Hunt design. At the time of construction, this was the largest FRP hull moulded by the SCRIMP resin infusion process, a technique which controls resin flow to produce a particularly strong and lightweight laminate. A comfortable family cruiser, Tumblehome has lots of "outdoor" spaces, including an aft deck the owner intended for her games of gin rummy. Cherry, teak, holly and red birch make up the interior spaces and recall the Maine roots of the owner. Roomy guest accommodations and a spacious owner's stateroom with a four-poster bed (which holds up the deck) and ample crew's quarters are below decks. Though conventional in many ways, Tumblehome was designed to have a distinctive teak sheathed deckhouse, but this detail was never completed owing to the owner's untimely death during construction.
