The STINGRAY Collection
STRINGRAY V is a classic cruiser designed by Ray Hunt in 1964. She was built in wood by Wharton in Jamestown, Rhode Island. She has seen multiple refits and repowers over the years by owners who lavished love and treasure on her. Still in use today, she is homeported in Newport, Rhode Island.
"She was perhaps the most seakindly motoryacht I have ever experienced in my more than 65 years of saltwater passage making. Her lines are very Ray Hunt and her entry very Dick Bertram."
- James H. Gourd
With a low sweet sheer line and sailboat style trunk cabins she inspired a range of custom yachts and production boats over the years. The collection shown here includes design descendants of STINGRAY. There is an assortment of layouts and profiles offering an array of cruising amenities. A variety of modern propulsion options are feasible including inboards and props, waterjets, and pods. Hybrid electric is now a realistic option, also.
If full planing offshore performance is the goal, then our full deadrise modern Deep-V hull is the right choice. If more sedate semi-planing speeds are sufficient, then our new High Efficiency V (HEV) hull would be a smart choice. This newly developed cousin to the Deep-V was conceived by Ray Hunt Design to be optimized for speed/length ratios in the 1.5 to 2.0 range. Or in simpler terms, cruising speeds in the teens and low 20s. The HEV shares the best characteristics of the Deep-V; soft dry ride, solid handling upwind and down, in combination with lower top speeds, smaller engines, less fuel consumption and greater range.
